Meet the Artist - Pooja Bhatla
My artistic journey began with a formal education in graphic design, which I completed in 1997 from Delhi. This early training helped shape my creative vision and laid the foundation for my exploration of various artistic styles and themes. Over the years, I have worked with water, oil colours and charcoal. I transitioned into working on canvas, where I express myself through abstract art & motifs, reflecting both my cultural heritage and personal evolution as an artist.
Living in Australia has introduced me to a new world of inspiration. I now incorporate the vibrant beauty of Australian native flora and fauna into my work, blending these natural elements with my abstract approach to create pieces that celebrate both the land I now call home and the traditions I grew up with. My art is a fusion of cultures, where the vivid colors and symbolic imagery of India meet the serene, organic forms of the Australian landscape.
I work predominantly with acrylics, and my canvases are an exploration of contrasts—between nature and abstraction, tradition and modernity, chaos and tranquility. Through my art, I aim to create a visual language that resonates on both an emotional and symbolic level, drawing connections between my past and present, and between two vastly different yet equally inspiring worlds.
